GIRLS IN GREEN

TRAINING
WILDLAND FIRE EXPERIENCE

Cutting Line
Girls in Green gives campers the opportunity to get hands on experience with some of the daily tasks as a wildland firefighter. One of the many stations that campers rotate through is cutting line.

Hoselay
At Girls in Green it is our mission to allow the campers as much hands on experience as possible. Campers will get the chance to participate in a hoselay demonstration.

Engine/Helicopteer Orientation
Campers will have an orientation of a wildland fire engine and a local agency helicopter. They will learn about the gear and equipment used and ask the crew members and pilot questions.

CPR/Basic First Aid
While many of the activities that campers participate in throughout camp are geared towards wildland fire, there are some that will teach them skills that they can use anywhere, like CPR and First Aid. Campers leave with a CPR and Basic First Aid certificate. They will learn the basics of how to apply first aid when in the wilderness and get familiar with using an AED.

Map and Compass
Campers will leave Girls in Green knowing how to read a map and properly use a compass.

Shelter Deployment
Campers learn what a shelter deployment is, when they would use it, and get to practice.

Team Building
Lifelong friendships have started in the Forest Service. One of the goals for the Girls in Green camp is for the campers to build friendships and experience the same camaraderie that those in wildland fire careers have.

Physical Training
Staying healthy and physically fit is important for this career. Campers are provided proper techniques to safely exercise.

Career Day
Our camp incorporates all aspects of wildland fire, but it also introduces campers to other career opportunities within the Forest Service. A career fair allows campers to interact with experts in these other careers, including Dispatch, Administrative, Recreation, and more.
